The 2017 Indian Presidential elections saw a great deal of discipline and responsibility as all the leaders of the Indian Government including PM Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan, and BJP Chief Amit Shah, exercised their right to vote. The polls are conducted by the secret ballot method and not EVM. The two Presidential candidates – Ram Nath Kovind (NDA) and Meira Kumar (Opposition) are both reputed personalities.
INC led Meira Kumar, who urged the nation to vote for an ideology while voting for the President, holds the following achievements to her name:
- Presidential Candidate
- Former Speaker, Lok Sabha
- Former Union Minister
- Five time Member of Parliament
A lot many political parties , including Congress, All India Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are in support of her. Sonia Gandhi said that various parties’ support to Meira Kumar is a proof that the fight for pluralistic India has been waged. She has received positive responses from the youth in the form of tweets. Here is one of them:
The achievements of BJP led Ram Nath Kovind, who holds the fame being a non-controversial leader, include:
- Advocate at Delhi High Court and Supreme Court for 12 years
- Rajya Sabha MP for 12 years since 1994
- Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017
- Board of management of Dr. B.R Ambedkar University, Lucknow

A day before the poll, PM Narendra Modi sent best wishes to Ram Nath Kovind, who hails from Kanpur. Even UP CM Yogi Adityanath wished him good luck.
While there is a lot of heat between NDA and Opposition for their respective Presidential candidates, both the candidates have their respective fan following in the nation. The result of the 2017 Indian Presidential elections shall be out on 20th July, 2017 after the counting finishes in New Delhi.
The result shall be a joint contribution of voting by all elected members of Parliament and the members of the legislative assemblies of all states, as well as of the union territories of Delhi and Puducherry, collectively forming the electoral college. India awaits for its 14th President as Pranab Mukherjee’s tenure ends on 24th July, 2017.
